The Rural Livelihood Development Company is a non-profit organisation established with the kind support of the Swiss Government in 2004 by two organisations, Intercooperation (IC) and Swisscontact (SC). Since then, our commitment has been to make market systems perform better so as to enable rural producers to gain better access to opportunities, hence empowering them with means to improve their lives.

In the first phase ending in 2008, RLDC succeeded in substantially increasing the income of ten thousands of households. Based on this achievement, RLDC has widened its approach in Phase II by aiming at improving entire market systems of selected sectors in agriculture, livestock and supporting services. At the same time RLDC has expanded its project area with two additional regions, reaching now a total of six regions in the Central Corridor.
The Central Corridor of Tanzania comprises some of the poorest regions of Tanzania. The rather dry climatic conditions certainly contributes to the relatively low level of economic activities in the corridor.
With great support of the Government of Switzerland through its Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), RLDC work seeks to improve markets systems and enable rural producers to better their lives. The focus is on utilisation of available opportunities in relevant sectors so as to provide employment and increase the income of rural producers, hence subsequently creating a chance for the improvement of their welfare.
